What was I doing 10 years ago?

I was working at the University of Utah and was in the midst of infertility treatments that would result in a miscarriage (5 wks pregnant) in October of 1998 and finally a twin pregnancy in 1999.

What are 5 things on my to-do list today?

1. Fold laundry
2. Get kids to bed by 8:30
3. Make progress on a project at work.
4. Make some kind of dinner out of ground beef
5. Pick up the license plates for my hubby's car.

What would I do with a Billion dollars?

I would pay off debt, fix up and sell our current house, buy about 100 acres of land and the cattle to go with it, build a house for us and for my parents on the above-mentioned acreage, make sure my parents-in-law have everything they need, invest what's left over.

5 of my bad habits:

1. Procrastination
2. Picking the my cuticles (ugh--it's genetic! My grandma, mom, me and now my son do it).
3. Not putting things away when I am done with them.
4. Disorganization
5. The internet, lol.

5 places I have lived:

1. Detroit, MI (two different houses, when I was under 2 years old).
2. Grosse Ile, MI (between the ages of 2 and 19)
3. Provo, UT (4 different homes in college and after)
4. With the in-laws in UT
5. Our current home in UT

5 Things people don't know about me:

1. I have a fear of falling so I won't ever skydive or bungee jump.
2. Mustard cannot touch the cheese on my sandwiches.
3. I had a crush on Michael Landon in Bonanza
4. I would religiously watch Emergency! after my bath on Saturday night when I was about 5 or 6.
5. I can't stand to sleep in that fake polyester "flannel" stuff. ICK!!! Why do I have pajamas for my kids made out of that same stuff??

We're still on a roll! Last week's lesson went over well, but we're still having trouble with J telling little lies. Bummer. Maybe there's a scarier "Lie Monster" out there somewhere?

But, for this week, I found this site that has some wonderful ideas, including a series of 10 lessons based on Gordon B. Hinckley's book, Standing For Something. The first lesson was on Love and next week's will be on Honesty. Maybe more lessons on Honesty will impact J a bit more. I like how it is set up as a kit. I found an old 3 ring binder in the basement and put the first 2 lessons in page protectors. You can even put the visual aids into the protectors as well.

The lesson on Love went over really well. I hope we made an impression that we need to show love to each other (read: siblings!) and not just others. We've been having a bit of trouble with the siblings being mean to each other--J being loud and annoying, C telling him to stop, J calling her "Mom" because she's being bossy, etc. Anyway, we'll see how this series goes!

I'll update later with a report on how it was received by my 8 year olds. :o)

Snow Day....

We had a doozy of a blizzard on Valentine's Day. It was so bad where we lived that they closed the schools in our district for the first time in about 20 years. Here are some pictures of that day for your viewing pleasure!



Pumpkin, at about 6:45 am deciding whether or not to venture out into the snow. The two other kitties decided they didn't even want to think about going outside. Casey took one look at it and hightailed it out of there before I could snap his picture. Their mom, Treasure, didn't even come out to see.

This is our Kia and our backyard. There were some serious drifts!

This is our driveway after my first pass with the snow shovel. I was not looking forward to shoveling the second pass down the driveway.


But, I did it!


This is J taking a little break from shoveling the sidewalk. He did great job! He shoveled about 3/4 of the sidewalk in front of our house, plus part of the end of the driveway after the snowplows dumped slush into it.


This is C. She didn't feel like shoveling that day.


Here are C and J. J sank down into the snow and got his boot stuck. C is being nice and trying to help her brother out. The snow is really piled high here, but I believe that most of the height is from Neighbor throwing his snowblowered snow into our yard. Before the storm, it was halfway up the fence. Then, add two feet to that and, well...fun, deep snow!


Yay! Thanks to C, J found his boot!

Well, we're two for two on the Family Home Evening front! I'm finding that we just need to do it. Thanks to all who encouraged me as I decided to start last week!! It takes less than a half hour and I can see from last night's session that it was so beneficial!

The lesson was called Children of God. The activity at the end entailed writing a family members name on a piece of paper followed by the word "is". The paper is then passed to the other family members and they have to add a positive word describing that person. At the end of the activity, I reminded every one that Heavenly Father has enough nice words to say about them to fill up a whole piece of paper, probably even a whole book! When people say mean things to them, they can now go home and look at the list we all wrote and remember those things, think about what Heavenly Father thinks of them and not worry about what others think.

I'm so excited that we are finally getting into the habit!
